Apple: Most Innovative Tech Company

A blog posted by Bruce Nussbaum of BusinessWeek tells why Apple is number one in innovation. The results came from the BW/BCG Survey in which 1032 responses from top managers were tallied. The first 50 responses are posted in Bruce’s article. Bruce mentioned that Apple’s ability in innovation could be because of its use of design thinking to create products/services that meet the unmet needs of consumers. This may be attributed to the success of iPod and iTunes. They revolutionized the way people listened to and made use of digital music. Furthermore, Bruce also mentioned of a notable phrase in his article- an ecosystem of innovation.

The ability to create desire for products, and we’re not talking of just one; bundle it with unique characteristics that operate seamlessly with each other; add to that the design, and we have qualities that every company ever dreamed of. It can’t be denied that Apple’s success is greatly attributed to its CEO who only asks for nothing but a $1 paycheck, Steve Jobs. Being a genius entrepreneur that he is, Mr. Jobs also listens to the consumers, even up to the minute details. Perhaps it is because of this attention to detail that he is able to build an ecosystem of innovation.

Yes, Apple knows how to position its products and all that but the one thing I give credit to Apple the most is its ability to create products and/or services out of small ideas that most of us may have otherwise thought of, yet we haven’t really made a big deal out of them. Let’s take the case of MP3 players. iPod wasn’t the first one but it became the first choice when music players come to mind. The reason why iPod is different from other music players is because it simply works. Who would’ve thought that a device with a plain color, a click wheel, a large enough screen and a headphone jack would attract consumers? While everybody else was thinking about feature-rich interfaces and complicated navigation buttons, the iPod simply did what it was suppposed to do- play music. You and I could have done that, but Apple already made the first, bold move. Who would’ve have thought that buttonless cell phones would work? Everybody did, but the way iPhone presented it was simply stunning.

Who would’ve thought simple and minute things could create desire? No wonder Apple’s the most innovative company in the world.

Steve Jobs has a yearly salary of $1 because he is not like Bill Gates, who gets money he doesn’t need. Steve knows he does not need the money, so what better to use the extra money on than apple?

I’m a very big fan of Apple, infact I am viewing this page on one of their products, an Apple Mac OS 9.2 (old, I know. I have a Mac OS X 10.4.9 but that is being used :-(

Wow! It’s good to know that this Web site is viewable on an OS 9.2. It’s amazing how old Macs can still be that useful.

Steve Jobs surely knows the difference between need and want, doesn’t he?
