Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos (2007)
You might be wondering why this post was included here when all the previous posts were about technology. Let me remind you of this Web site’s title then- Articles, News, Updates and Reviews on Technology and Life. I love music, particularly metal and I consider it a part of my life. So there you go, music belongs to the Life aspect of Project Afterlight. Anyway, on with the topic.
Systematic Chaos is Dream Theater’s 9th studio album, but the first one released under Roadrunner Records. Roadrunner is also responsible for the success of bands like Megadeth, Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Soulfly and Trivium. Systematic Chaos is due to be released on June 5, 2007. I got the chance to listen to the tracks in the album and I would say it has gotten heavier and more aggressive. Compared to the previous album, Octavarium, Systematic Chaos seems to have that don’t fall asleep substance in it. The previous album was somewhat dull in a sense that the first couple of tracks would already make you want to listen to other bands who would make you remember what metal music is. This time, Systematic Chaos did live up to my expectations. John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy and Jordan Rudess (guitars, percussions and keyboard respectively) is still more than what you’d expect with the instruments they play. John Myung’s bass is even more evident throughout the tracks of the album and James LaBrie’s voice still bears the trademark that would let one identify the band. The songs I personally like are:
- In the Presence of Enemies, Pt. 1
- Constant Motion
- Dark Eternal Night
- Prophets of War
- In the Presence of Enemies, Pt. 2
Overall, Systematic Chaos is an album you’d expect from a great band like Dream Theater- and more. Come June 5th, Systematic Chaos will surely be a hit to both Dream Theater fans and metal music devotees.
