My Ever Changing Top 5 File Hosting Services

If you’ve been using Gmail recently, you might have noticed that the attachment limit is now 20 MB. Yup, it has doubled. However, a recent project of mine called for a larger attachment. The file was around 80 MB, so I went ahead and looked for file hosting services. A simple Google search for the term free file hosting gave me an idea of what would initially make up my top 5 file hosing services.

Most of us use RapidShare or Megaupload to share files. We know of the limits they impose on a certain file size or country. Because of their popularity and known limits, I won’t be including them for a change. Below are my top 5 file hosting services (for now):

MediaFire - Free file hosting made simple

MediaFire

The top result in the Google SERP for free file hosting. A straightforward user interface with little or no ads on the home page convinced me that MediaFire should be on top.

  • 100 MB limit
  • 20 kbps upstream (at least on my end)
  • easy upload management (for those who sign-up)

FileFactory - The leader in free unlimited file hosting!

FileFactory

  • 300 MB limit
  • 20 kbps upstream (at least on my end)
  • simple status viewer (time remaining, upload speed)
  • download page is difficult to navigate
  • the ads somehow confuses the user

zUpload - Large files shared quickly and easily for free!!!

zUpload

  • 500 MB limit
  • unknown upstream
  • no status viewer

Sendspace - Send big files the easy way.

Sendspace

  • 300 MB limit
  • 20 kbps upstream (at least on my end)
  • textual and graphical status viewer

BestSharing - Your one-click hosting

BestSharing

  • 125 MB limit
  • unknown upstream
  • download and delete links are given after uploading
  • optional e-mail for a copy of the links

These are my top 5 file hosting services for now. I have yet to try these sites which I’ve seen on CNET TV:

Transfer Big Files - Send and receive large files to and from anyone- free!

TransferBIGFiles

  • 1 GB limit
  • straightforward UI

YouSendIt

YouSendIt

  • 100 MB limit
  • requires registration

With regard to the download speed, you be the judge.

If you have any other file hosting services that you’d like added, feel free to post a comment. After all, this is My Ever Changing Top 5 File Hosting Services.

Kid’s online games no longer include just space ship battle games or race car games; you can find almost any traditional game in its electronic form, from checkers to scrabble or from math games to chess.

i personally prefer http://www.slingfile.com because they allow you to upload 1gb files, 100 at a time. they also pay you to upload, and are really easy to manage your files. when you upload videos, you can stream them on the site too
