1st Weekend Blog Drive-By

1st Blog Drive-By

I’ve been exploring a lot of blogs lately. Whether it be for a design evaluation or a Stumble, I go there. However, I haven’t been particular about content. I declared in a discussion somewhere that only extreme interest can force me to read an entire article. I intend to change that now. I want to explore the World Wide Web in a broader sense. I want to know what my fellow bloggers have been up to. At least once in a week or month, I’ll pay a visit to their blogs and read entirely at least one of their articles. In this way, I can learn more things without thinking about directions. Inspiration from nothingness. Hmmm… Sounds fun.

Brown Thoughts: Analog Ideas in a Digital World.

Brown ThoughtsI had a good laugh when I partly read Brown Baron’s The Unknown Blogger Interview. It also garnered a variety of reactions. This time, his blogger friend suggested that he turn it into a meme. The imaginary blog interview will deal with the question, “How would you respond if you were interviewed by another blog right now while you’re still undiscovered?” It will very interesting to know what the first batch of blogs tagged has to say. Best of luck to The Imaginary Blog Interview Meme.

Syaf The Geek: Let’s Make Computing Much Fun, Shall We?

Syaf the GeekSyaf The Geek has been my source of software updates since I came across it. When I visited it earlier, I got extremely intrigue by an update on Google Numbers & Facts. Did you know that 20 to 25% of Google queries have never been searched before? What about the 112 languages including Breton, Reto-Romanic, Catalan, Kurdish, Frisian and Gaelic that it supports? And yeah, Google gave free bicycles to all its employees in Europe this year. I bet you didn’t know that. Intriguing indeed!

Untwisted Vortex: Living in a Different Land

Untwisted VortexI regularly visit RTCA’s blog to seek wisdom. His thoughts on life is inspiring and influential. His best friend, Scott wrote a short article on Friendship that made me reflect for a while. I have often lived the Ignatian way and as stated in St. Ignatius’ prayer for generosity, I learned to choose my friends based on how they reacted to my deeds.

to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to seek reward,

I have stopped being religious since I came to know Philosophy. But I haven’t stopped being good because as stated in Scott’s article, I am blessed by those that understand my actions and words despite some that choose to misinterpret them.

Secret of Unlimited Prosperity: Visualize. Feel. Abundance

Secrets of Unlimited ProsperityKaren’s blog has been my source of strength since I bumped into her article about The Ladder of Dreams. I felt empowered again when I read 9 Secret Steps To Life Transformation: Take Back Your Full Responsibility. You see, I often find reasons for anything I do. When I write an article or read books, I try to find an excuse. When I can’t do something, I blame it on some factors that I consider vital.

I was occasionally faced with a dilemma that I can’t seem to figure out. The article stated, “No one else can change you if you do not want to change…”. I admit that when it comes to my own self, I hesitate to change. I often find other ways just to avoid change, but hey I’m a grown up now. I think I can already take full responsibility. I can. I will!

Veggie-Blog: Providing Insight Into the Vegetarian Lifestyle

Veggie-BlogMissy was thinking of switching blogging platforms from Blogger to WordPress. She’s quite confident of the move. With full support from her fellow bloggers, the transition will hopefully be seamless. She already has great content about information, entertainment, and product news within the vegetarian lifestyle. I’m sure her decision to move to a more flexible platform will make her blogging experience even better. Just look at her new blog. Groovy Vegetarian is definitely attractive.

I have found inspiration from all of these blogs. Visit them, and hopefully you too can find an article worth pondering on.

The eternal dilemma, the debate that has come down the ages ever since someone suggested putting a finely-tooled kidskin cover on the Bible - do we prefer style or substance?

I’ve made the (perhaps foolhardy) decision to write a novel via a blog, and I’ve realised the hard way that readers aren’t easily seduced into spending time reading a 1500 word posting every day.

I’ve tried to give some thought to the blog design, but as a newcomer to blogdom, with limited technical skills, it’s a constant struggle!

It’s great to see your own really well-designed blog, with thoughtful posts. I’ll try and stop by more often.

    Kind Regards

It depends what I’m looking at the moment. If I come to some blog first time I try to read few paragraphs of few posts to gain some picture of complete blog. If I find it interesting, worth reading, I bookmark it and return to it later.

I don’t expect someone will read entire post if it is too long or not much good. That’s why I’m trying to write shorter posts.

    Best wishes,
    WebAction

Thank you, Thomas Hamburger Jnr! Personally, I’d look at a design first. It’s like an appetizer, so visuals count a lot (for me). I believe I belong to the minority’s side because I see many others look directly at the content. I also believe that images speak a lot of words and that they provide balance to paragraphs.

Images and words could be good compromises to time.

    @webaction,
    I like your style!

I’m often closed-minded when it comes to topics of interest, that’s why if the looks don’t match my taste, I begin to act lazy right away. An exception is when a particular topic really intrigues me.

I think it would benefit me much if I borrow your style. Would that be okay for you?

Thanks to both of you for dropping by and sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

  4. Brown Baron Says:

Thanks for the mention buddy. I like the collage.

  5. Gabriel Says:

You’re welcome, Brown Baron. I’m glad you liked collage. I made them especially for the first batch.

  6. Scott Says:

Thanks for mentioning my article on Friendship at Untwisted Vortex. My hope is that by sharing my thoughts and ideas that I would find other thoughtful people who are willing to share their ideas both similar and dissimilar. On a more personal level the blog forces me to find a way to put into words and communicate those thoughts which unconsciously guide my decisions and enforce who I am. While I sometimes feel all alone in these ideas and thoughts I’m sure others are experiencing a similar path to self awareness and spiritual awakening.
    Thanks for your encouragement.
    Scott

  7. Gabriel Says:

You’re welcome Scott! Your article on Friendship was short but profound. I’m thankful for that post.

  8. webaction Says:

Thanks very much for visiting my blog and YES, you can borrow my style :)
I faved and bookmarked you. I like your blog design.
    Cheers!

I think, on balance, you’re right. A well-designed blog doesn’t compensate for poor postings, but it’s like meeting someone for the first time at an interview. You have a few seconds to impress, and if you don’t crack it as soon as you walk through the door, no matter how hard you try with what you say, you’re fighting against first impressions.

    Kind Regards

  10. Gabriel Says:

Sure webaction. I’ll visit your blog regularly. Thanks as well for all your kind words.

Oh, thanks! Now I’m beginning to read posts more and more.

    @Thomas Hamburger Jnr,
I agree. You made me realize how important balance is not just for the design, but for the content as well. Thanks!

First impressions. If only I could turn back time… :)

    Hey Gabriel,

Thanks for the mentioned and I am very happy to be your source of strength. It was the aim of our blog to spread positivity :)

And I like the way your blog is structured, very organized and eye pleasing and you made me realize how much a picture or 2 really spice up a blog post. I better consider posting some relevant pictures to spice up my blog post too!

And I agree with Thomas that not every one enjoy long posting. But James and myself find it hard to stop writing most of the time. :)

    Hugs,
    Karen

Dude, thanks for mentioning my blog. Yeah Google always surprised everyone and sometimes funny too. Weird? You can include that hehehe.

  13. Missy Says:

Hi—Gabriel: Wow! How cool of you to profile me and my blog, i do appreciate it. Thanks for the mention, the visit and your support. I must say that i am confident in my switch of blog platform from blogger to wordpress. I have to tell you though, that it has not been as easy as i though it would be, only because of my very limited software skills. However all is moving along nicely, just yesterday i got my own domain name, i’m super excited about the fact that it was available. Yippee! I also got my own hosting yesterday as well, and i was able to do the one-click install of wordpress on my domain name, i am now awaiting for the DNS stuff to propagate through the net. Then i will work on the theme and widgets, etc.

Again thanxs for the mention, i also like your blog collage, that looks really cool. See ya around. Missy.

  14. Gabriel Says:

You’re welcome Karen, Syaf, and Missy!

Pictures do speak a thousand words, don’t they?

I always picture out Google as a serious company, but it’s nice to see Google getting weird from time to time. :D

It won’t be easy migrating to WordPress. However, I believe everything will pay off in the end.

Thank you all for visiting my blog and reading my article! I truly appreciate it.

  15. karenlim Says:

Hey Gab, you won’t regret migrating to wordpress if you love organic traffic. On any day, google will sent about 30-50 visitors to my blog. You just need to write post with the right keywords and traffic will flow in :)

  16. Gabriel Says:

You’re right Karen. WordPress is pretty good in SEO; not to mention a fantastic plug-in that you can choose to install.

Thanks again for dropping by! :)
