World in Conflict Can Run With Less Than The Minimum System Requirements

World in Conflict can run with less than the minimum system requirementsI’ve been playing this game for the past 3 days and I just can’t stop thinking about it. One multiplayer match lasts for about 15 minutes, or maybe even less if there’s teamwork, but be sure to allot a minimum of 4 hours. Once you’ve begun, “One more game!” will be your word for the day. World in Conflict is definitely an addictive RTS game. This game isn’t just about the graphics. More importantly it’s the gameplay that counts.

My Ancient System Specs

You may not believe it but I was able to run the game (which is by the way, in beta at the time of this writing) with less than the minimum system requirements. Don’t expect stunning graphic details, of course.

  • CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1500+ Palomino @ 1327 MHz, 133 MHz FSB
  • MOTHERBOARD: ECS L7VMM2 (VIA KM266-8236 Southbridge), 266 MHz bus speed
  • RAM: 2 x 256 MB DDR, 133 MHz FSB, Generic
  • GRAPHICS CARD: nVidia GeForce FX5500 256 MB 128 BIT
  • HARD DISK: Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM Ultra ATA, 200 GB PATA
  • SOUND: CMI 8738
  • HEATSINK FAN: Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 @ max speed: ~5625 rpm
  • MONITOR: AOC 7En, 17″ @ 1024 x 768, 32-bit
  • Operating System: Windows XP SP2
  • DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c
  • Bandwidth Speed: 384 Kbps DSL (400 Kbps downstream, 291 Kbps upstream)

Word in Conflict System Requirements

  • OS: Windows® XP, Windows Vista™ operating system
  • CPU Single-core: 2. 0 GHz or faster (2. 2 GHz for Windows Vista™)
  • CPU Dual-core: Any Intel® or AMD®
  • RAM: 1 GB (1.5 GB for Windows Vista™)
  • Hard Drive: 2.0 GB available hard drive space
  • Video: 128 MB video RAM, DirectX® 9.0c compatible (GeForce® 4 MX, Radeon® 8500, 9200 not supported)
  • Sound: DirectX® 9.0c compatible
  • Input: Keyboard and mouse
  • Internet connection: Cable/DSL

Just look at my processor, motherboard, memory, and video card. With those kind of specs, it’s expected that I’m always the last to join the game. When everyone else’s map has loaded, I’m still in the loading screen. When they’re ordering units, I’m still in the team selection screen. When a nuke explodes in front of my screen, my PC slightly goes to a halt. When a couple of teammates use the VOIP feature, I get a decent amount of lag. Well, these are the things I have to deal with in the game. Nonetheless, at least I don’t finish last.

Graphic details aren’t all that important for me. Word in Conflict teaches teamwork, and that’s what I care about the most. Like what the game says, knowing your role and teamwork are the keys to victory.

Screen Shots from an Actual Multiplayer Game - World in Conflict Beta

Here are the screen shots I’ve taken while in the game. As I’ve said, the details aren’t as good since my specs aren’t up to date. The important thing is that I was able to run and play the game.

    nice… thanks for info bro… now i know that i can play world in conflict….. coz were almost have the same specs…^_^

  3. Andragon Says:

    Wow, i actually have hope then!

    I will be getting a new system sooner or later, but these are the ones i’ll have until probably my Birthday in October:

    2.7Ghz Celeron
    512MB DDR266mhz RAM.
    40GB Seagate Barracuda5400 Hard Drive
    Nvidia Geforce FX5500 128Mb Graphics Card
    15″ Edge10 TFT monitor (1024×768)

    What framerates do ya think i’ll get with those specs? Is this game more CPU, GPU or RAM dependant for good framerates? Every game is different. Games like Unreal Tourament 2004 couldn’t care less for the CPU or RAM, a good GPU is needed. Games like Homeworld 2 benefit a faster CPU more than anything else. Games like Black and White 2 need all 3 to perform. So how does this game balance, dya know?

  4. Gabriel Says:

    The RAM and GPU are more demanding. Whenever the game starts, my RAM is always close to 0. Whenever large bombs explode, I get less than 10 fps. On average, I think my fps is around 15 (1024×768 at lowest settings).

  5. soren121 Says:

    Oh, your system specs aren’t that bad. Those specs are only just a little better than most $500-600 PC’s today. My computer is really old, but I upgraded it and it’s accesories a little while ago.

    Ubuntu Linux 7.04 (I’ve been in love with Ubuntu ever since I installed it 5 months ago!)
    1.6GHz AMD Sempron 2800+ Single-Core Processor
    1GB RAM
    200GB Maxtor HD
    Samsung 913V 19″ LCD Monitor
    NVIDIA GeForce MX 4000 (NV18) Graphics Card
    NETGEAR WPN511 (Atheros 5212) internal wireless card
    SONY CRX230ED CD-RW Drive
    Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive
    Generic Floppy Drive (I don’t use it anymore)

    It runs fairly well. Really, REALLY wish I had the new iMac though. Unfortunately I only have about $100 to my name. (I don’t have a job)

  6. The Engineer Says:

    You guys think thats old ?!

    My system is 5 years old!
    Only reason it lasted this long is because it was custom built as a scientific graphics workstation. It cost about $3500 back in 2002.

    Pentium 4 3GHZ
    1 Gig memory at 400 mhz
    A $900 Nvidia Quadro 900 XGL
    Seagate hard drives 120 Gigabyte

    Actually its the Nvidia 900 XGL thats made this workstation viable.
    The Quadro will play any game out there even today with a old Pent 4 CPU.

    I learned for graphics its the GPU not the CPU thats most important.

    Now upgrading a machine donated to me.
    A AMD 64 single core 2 GHZ.
    Crappy GPU

    Upgrading to

    AMD FX-60 2.6 GHZ Dual core
    1 Gigabyte DDR440
    Nvidia 8800 GTX SLI

    Why am I upgrading…

    These are bare absolute requirements for Directx10 Pixel shader 4.0.
    Thats the stuff that makes video games look realistic.
    I am tired of old style pixel shader 2 on old games.

    A bunch of games coming out 4th Q of 2007 and early 2008 that utilizes Pixel shader 4.0.

    Oh yeah… one more thing upgrading to Windows Vista, which is the only way to get DirectX10, hence only way to get Pixel shader 4.0.

    Good news is if these games support OpenGL 2.1 it should support pixel shader 4.0.
    It has to have the 4.0 extention in the opengl driver. OpenGl doesn’t care what operating system it runs on so a XP and even 2000 will work fine.

  7. Vic Says:

    @The Engineer… Those are not the bare absolute reqs. for DX10. The only real reqs. are Vista, and an 8×00 geforce or a 2×00 Radeon. So the SM4.0 will work on a 8500 one a P4.

    I would recommend 2 gigs of ram though, because vista just eats ram

  8. PhIL Says:

    Wow that is interesting.. at least the game runs.. hmm i wonder if it will work on my system with descent quality or frame rates.. i have:

    Amd 64 x2 4400+
    2 gigs ddr2 800mhz ram
    ATi x1550 512mb ddr2

    but gonna try to get a new gpu next year anyways.. have enough good titles to play to last me till i get my new card =)..

  15. joey Says:

    it will run if you have at least 2.0 ghz,but everything thing else is fine

  16. bon Says:

    i am having trouble running with it,, it says pixel shader or vertex is not supported by my graphics adapter. but according to intel GMA950 supports pixel shader.. :-( i really wanted to play with this game, anyone got a soultion?

  17. Gabriel Says:

    Bon,

    I believe the Intel Graphics 950 that you have is an onboard video (built-in). Unfortunately, most newer games don’t support onboard graphics cards because they demand dedicated GPU’s.

    Your specs are actually better than mine. Buying a dedicated video card like the one I have above (FX5500) will let your system run World in Conflict, at least with the minimum settings available.

    I cant able to run the game in resolution of 1024*768 .Actually the game is running but display is black.Can someone help plz.

  23. Gabriel Says:

    @yash,

    Can you post your PC specs? Maybe there’s a problem with the video card or the video card driver. Or DirectX 9 perhaps?

  24. Sign Info Says:

    Hi…I have a FX 5500 Graphic card but i can’t run the game. The game crashes to desktop with no error messages…how could you run it on fx 5500?

  25. Gabriel Says:

    It could be an issue with your graphics card driver. You can try updating it or download an alternate driver. I’m using an nVidia driver from OmegaDrivers.net.

    Verify your version of DirectX 9 as well. I’m using DirectX 9.0c.

  26. robert Says:

    Can someone please tell me if the game will run on this laptop that i will get. It has the following specs:

    AMD Turion 64 x2 dual core
    2 gig of ram
    windows vista
    nvidia 6100 video card ( I am not sure if it is built in)

  27. Gabriel Says:

    @Robert,

    I’m not sure about the nVidia 6100 video card. It may be TurboCache, meaning that it gets additional resources from RAM to perform better. Additionally, it may hamper game performance if it’s built-in. However, I can assure you that it’s DirectX 9.0c compatible. As for the other specs, they’re okay.

    Since you’re playing on your laptop, you may not be able to run the game with the best graphic detail settings. If you’re like me who can appreciate the lowest possible detail settings, then go ahead play the game.

  28. robert Says:

    ok thanks gabreil i probably should get a better laptop then since i did not purchase that one yet. i am looking for one with a good graphics card. i was thinking of getting one with a nvidia 6150 graphics card with 559 mb of shared video memory. It said on the website that it is good for intense games.

    Gabriel,
    So it won’t be possible to run World In Conflict in a built-in Intel GMA950? My laptop also had this graphics.. uhh ohh– :-(

  30. justin Says:

    Will my system run World in Conflict on at least MEDIUM?

    I have the following
    AMD Athlon X2 3600+ 5.70GHz
    1 GB DDR2 RAM ( im thinking of buying another gig )
    250GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
    7500LE Nvidia Geforce ( My main concern )
    Windoes Vista Home Primuium 32Bit Operating System
    DirectX 10.0
    19″ Samsung SyncMaster 940BW LCD Moniter

    Another thing will i need a internet connection to download the game, i understand i will need one for multiplayer but will i need it just for single player?

  31. Gabriel Says:

    @arch,

    Onboard Intel graphics cards are kinda notorious when it comes to “intense” games such as Company of Heroes, Bioshock, or World in Conflict. If you really wanna try the game in that setup, you can download a demo version of the game.

    Try to look for updated drivers on Intel’s Web site as well. Updating your video card drivers might help.

  32. Gabriel Says:

    @justin,

    With the kind of specs that you have, yeah. I think medium settings won’t give you any problem, but maybe not at a 1280×1024 resolution. If the 7500 LE can be compared to 7300 GT, then I guess you’re good to go.

    During the open beta days, I had a couple of chats with the players and they had an average of 2 GB for ram and an 8600 GT. With regard to downloading the game, the FULL version is already out now.

    For single player campaign (which you can finish in a day), you don’t need to have an Internet connection.

    For multiplayer mode, you will need to have a working CD-key and an Internet connection to be able to play online. However, you don’t need a CD-key for LAN.

    I’m currently using Hamachi so I can make use of the LAN feature in World in Conflict.

  33. Justin Says:

    Hi again, Im still not totally convinced that my system would take it. I will upgrade to 2GB but a good graphics card is really too expensive just for a game. could my pc still take medium settings with no lagging, and does medium settings still look OK? if medium would not be good perforance wise how bout low settings, does that look sufficient enoughf??

  34. Gabriel Says:

    @Justin,

    There will be lag because of the amount of smoke that the game uses. Even those using SLI 8600 GTs experience a decent amount of lag in multiplayer games.

    The medium detail settings will definitely look better than my screenshots above. If you take a look at them, they’re taken with very low graphic detail settings at 800×600 screen resolution.

    Maybe if you set your detail settings to low or very low, the amount of lag would be lessened.

  35. robert Says:

    Its me again. I have been looking at a lot of gameplay videos for this game. Do most people who post a gameplay video use the medium setting? I ask this because the detail looks good on the gameplay videos and i dont think that they use high detail because the graphics cards are way too expensive. For example, i saw this computer that was about $799.99 and had a 6150 graphics card. Then i saw another computer that had the same specs, but it cost $1399.99 just because it had a geforce fx 8000 graphics card.

  36. Gabriel Says:

    People who post videos are probably the enthusiast and overclocker type of gamers. They probably have the hardware to show off. They also assemble their own computers so they can choose the “best-bang-for-the-back” hardware. Enthusiasts, overclockers, and gamers have one thing in common- they often go for a price-to-performance ratio of a product. As long as a particular hardware has good reviews and falls within their threshold, they buy it. After all, they like to spend for their toys.

    The official gameplay videos you’ve seen were probably taken with the highest possible detail settings and resolution. We’re talking about multiple cores and GPU’s as well as a high definition wide screen display. The unofficial ones were probably set at a detail setting of high with greater than 1024×768 screen resolution.

  37. robert Says:

    so is medium setting good?

  38. Gabriel Says:

    Sure! The screen shots I provided above are at the lowest settings possible (very low @ 800×600), but I can still live with the graphics.

  39. robert Says:

    OK so i guess its not that bad because i dont think i will ever be playing on high or maybe even medium with a geforce 6150 graphics card and 559 mb of shared memory

  40. Luke Says:

    Will my PC run World In Conflict on High Graphics Settings with minimal Lag and good performance? If not what would you suggest?

    I operate the following-
    Windoes Vista Home Primium
    32-BIT Operating System
    2GB DDR2 RAM
    nVidia GeForce 8600GTS 256MB SLI PCI
    DirectX 10.0
    AMD Ahlon 62 X2 3800+ 2.00GHz
    250 GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
    Samsung 19″ 940BW LCD SCREEN

  41. Gabriel Says:

    Luke,

    I’m not familiar with the performance of DirectX 10-compatible games as DX10 is still in its growing stages. Once it matures, performance will definitely be improved.

    With the kind of specs that you have, performance may be very good in single player mode even with very high detail settings at resolutions higher than 1024×768. Try to run the game at very high detail settings and at the highest possible screen resolution that your LCD screen can take. In that way, you can evaluate the details that your rig can accommodate.

    However, in multiplayer you may experience a decent amount of lag. World in Conflict can support a maximum of 16 players per match so it should give your CPU’s and GPU’s enough stress. Bandwidth may be a factor to lag as well when playing online.

  42. Bon Says:

    Gabriel,

    Your so good man! your always here to asnwer all our questions as fast as you can! ! huh! keep it up!! :-)

    Bon

  43. robert Says:

    ya its true what bon said. your a good person. thanks for your help.

  44. Luke Says:

    What FPS rate do u think my system would show on the folowing settings?
    Very High: FPS#: ???
    High: FPS#: ???
    Medium?: FPS# ???

  45. Gabriel Says:

    @Bon and Robert,

    Hey thanks! Sure, I’ll keep it up. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I might be able to answer them.

    @Luke,

    I’m not sure since I haven’t used programs that measure frame rates for a while. If you want to find out yourself instead, you can download a trial version of FRAPS. I’m sure you won’t be frustrated with the results. Your hardware rocks!

  46. Luke Says:

    Hey, me again i was wondering if redownloading XP will benifit me more than vista. I understand World In Conflict will perform 50% better on XP but i will lose DirectX 10.0. ATM i am operating vista but i have my backround blank and my start menu and internet explorer set to a classic version ( It looks like Windoes 2000 but is vista ) so it does not use much of the cpu, is this a good alternative so i dont have to redownload XP??? or is it just a waste of time?

  47. Justin Says:

    Hey, i am about to get rid of my 7500LE and install my new 8600GTS i was wondering how this card will install. Is there anything more that i have to do from opening my PC unslotting my old 7500LE and slotting in my 8600GTS. Is there any discs ( DVD’s, CD’s ) i have to run, if so do i run the disc before or after putting the new card in. Also do i need any other wires or loose bits and pieces to make the card work. And what about a power supply, if my 7500LE can run on my PC would i have any problems with my new 8600GTS power-wise ( Is it in need of a bigger power supply in WATTS ) ????

  48. John Says:

    Because MY [ADSL2+] is temporarily stuffed and im stuck with a [56Kbps] :( Dial Up Modem, will i be able to take World In Conflict’s Multiplayer Section.

    P.S I am able to take Microsofts Flight Simulator X’s Multiplayer section.
    P.S My internet connection speed is currently at 42.6Kbps not that it really matters because that and [56Kbps] are both verry crap compared to my [ADSL2+] which i miss.

  49. Gabriel Says:

    Hey Luke,

    In my opinion, you’re already better off using Windows Vista with DX10. Try to measure your frame rates in Vista first before deciding to downgrade to Windows XP and DX9.

    By the way, the game has a “Run Benchmark” button in the options menu so it can automatically determine the settings that fit your particular system.

  50. Gabriel Says:

    Justin,

    I think you’d only need the extra peripheral (wires or loose bits) when you have an SLI setup (if you have more than 1 8600 GTS). The disc provided to you should be install the driver and display manager for your card. After installing your card, you should run the disc. Alternately, you can download an updated Forceware driver at the official nVidia site.

    With regard to the power requirements, nVidia recommends at least 350W for single card setups and 450W for SLI setups. You should be better off if you have more than that. What’s the brand and model of your power supply, by the way?

  51. Gabriel Says:

    John,

    I believe your multiplayer experience with World in Conflict using a dial-up connection won’t be pleasant. The maximum number of players in a game is 16, so you’ll be dealing with 15 other concurrent connections. Maybe that can take a lot of bandwidth.

    I’m not familiar with Flight Simulator X’s multiplayer game, though.

  52. Justin Says:

    i’m not sure what my power supply is atm all i no is that it can obviouslt take the 7500LE. And my PC is arond 6 months old so i dont think it would have a crapy power supply.

  53. Justin Says:

    I hear that the 7500LE used a 300WATT power supply. If thats the case on my pc how would i upgrade that power supply from 300w-450W+

  54. Gabriel Says:

    Oh I see. So maybe it’s a modern one and has enough wattage to power an 8600 GTS. Most PSU’s bundled with PC’s nowadays have around 500W.

  55. Gabriel Says:

    @Justin,

    Upgrading a PSU means purchasing a new one with a higher wattage and ampere rating.

  56. max Says:

    hello, this is my first time writing here and probably my last. gabriel, since i see how well you know about computers, can you tell me how well world in conflict can run on the following specs:

    windows vista ultimate
    2 gig ram
    amd turion 64×2 processor with 1.6 ghz processing speed
    nvidia geforce go 7600 graphics with 256 mb of video memory

  57. Gabriel Says:

    max,

    How are you doing, buddy?

    You pretty much have the same specs as Luke’s, except that he has an 8600 GTS:

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    32-BIT Operating System
    2GB DDR2 RAM
    nVidia GeForce 8600GTS 256MB SLI PCI-e
    DirectX 10.0
    AMD Athlon 62 X2 3800+ 2.00GHz
    250 GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
    Samsung 19″ 940BW LCD SCREEN

    Well, I would say that you can enjoy the game with medium settings. Maybe even high for the single player campaign. I’m assuming that your screen resolution is set at 1024×768. If you have a higher resolution, the game’s frame rate may slowly decline (meaning, slower rendering of graphics and slower performance).

  58. max Says:

    the max resolution is 1440x 900. however i believe that the geforce go graphics card has only 8 pipelines as opposed to a GT version of the same type which has 12 pipelines. wont the game perform worse with the geforce go 7600 because of the 4 less pipelines?

  59. Gabriel Says:

    Yeah. As the old adage goes, “the more, the merrier.” And just to make sure that your system is in its optimized form when playing the game, World in Conflict is wise enough to include a Run Benchmark button within the Options menu. The game will automatically give the best settings for your system at a specified resolution.

  60. max Says:

    ahh i see, so i can easily figure out what setting i should play the game at. actually to tell you the truth, i am not really interested at the graphics. im just interested if the game will run on my computer. Graphics aren’t a big deal for me in this game because you really dont see the effects of it unless you zoom in a lot and look at the trees, roads, or buildings. but if you actually want to see all of your units, you wont have time to zoom in all the way.

  61. max Says:

    so thanks

  62. jack Says:

    nice to here it can run what about this:

    Xp service pack 2
    AMD Athlon XP 2600+
    1.5GB Ram
    Sapphire Redeon 9200SE Atlantis 128mb

    I have come up with a problem though bought supreme commander and installed but i cant play it becuase my graphics card needs to support pixel shader 2.0 and unfortunatly it only supports 1.4. Will i have this problem with world in conflict collectors edition? any info would be greatly appriciated.

  63. jack Says:

    ohh the processor is a 1.9GHz thought id add that

    but the game doesnt start and it bounces back..

    id apreciate any response

    can i run this ame with such low sist build up

  66. Gabriel Says:

    @Jack,

    I’m pretty sure you’ll experience the same problems with World in Conflict Collector’s Edition. Unfortunately, your graphics card is the bottleneck and until you replace it with one that supports Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher, you won’t be able to run the game. :(

    @AJ27,

    Is it only a problem with World in Conflict? How about other games?

    I believe the problem isn’t on your CPU. My CPU has a lesser clock speed than yours but I were still able to run the game. Maybe the problem lies in your graphics card driver or DirectX 9. Try updating the driver or install alternate drivers such as the one from OmegaDrivers. Check your version of DirectX 9 as well. I hope you can resolve your issue asap. I know how frustrating it is not to be able to play a game that you really like.

  67. aj27 Says:

    gabriel i have played ghost recon advanced war fighter , race drive 3 , far cry , f.e.a.r. ..
    tomorrow (c<ause its kinda late here) ill try with the omega drivers.
    I hope its not the cpu (celeron 430 (1.85gz) 800fsb , although its an inexpensive one i just got it .
    the direct version comes with the game also.

    my graphics card is a 256mb turbocache, i hope it runs on it..

    il spend some time tomorrow on it and ill post anything new..

    Gabriel thanks a lot for responding. ill keep posting and hope u 2 as well.

    Anyone with any suggestion is really helpful or with low end computer that run this game? how low can you go on specs here ..

    peace

  68. Maark Says:

    i have amd athlon 3000 64, nvidia 6100
    1 gb of ram,windows xp.

    can my system run this game?

  69. robert Says:

    would it be better to use a geforce go 7600 with 256 mb of memory or a geforce go 7150 with 559 mb of shared memory? I really cant decide. on the website, it said that the geforce go 7150 with 559 mb of shared memory was perfect for more demanding games. however, when i went to the website for the geforce go 7600, it didnt say anything about playing games on it.

  70. aj Says:

    hi gabriel and the rest of u
    i just got a dual core pentium 1.8ghz
    i have 1 gig of M ram
    geforce 7300gs
    windows xp
    but still i cant start the game, it bounces back to windows

    could it be a slow dvd driver?

    anyone can help me please..

  71. Gabriel Says:

    @aj27,
    I think my specs are the slowest that the game can accommodate. My CPU did not pass the requirements but my graphics card coped up with it, so I was still barely able to play the game. You can review my specs in the article above.

    @Maark,
    Hmmm… Is the 6100 built in? The documentation doesn’t say anything about the 6100 being unsupported, so maybe the game will run with your specs. Your CPU and RAM are okay. As you can see, I have way older specs than you have. Hehe.

  72. Gabriel Says:

    @aj,

    Do you notice the light/LED indicator on your DVD-ROM drive light up or blink when launching the game? There are many other possibilities as to why you can’t launch the game. It could be an issue with your firewall… or a corrupt DirectX 9 installation… or a corrupt installation of the game… or even a video card driver problem. Maybe your PC is infected by a virus?

    Is it only with this game? Your specs meet the requirements of the game, so it should only be an issue with the software part (drivers or operating system).

  73. Maark Says:

    thanks gabriel and 6100 is built in.

  74. Fen Says:

    On intel GMA950 (945 family) WiC before patch was running very good but now after patch there are some unknown issues with that cards ;s. Game is recently crashing

  76. aj Says:

    gabriel

    i just noticed the dvd doesnt even blink when i tried to run it after installation
    the screen fragments itself into little squares as is the game was going to start and then it bounces to windows without the dvd blinking..
    i have like a 3 yo dvd driver

    does one need to have like a fast dvd driver ?
    why in the installation doesnt appear any sign of misrequirment..

    thanx for your future and past advices

  79. Arch Says:

    Fen,
    So it is really running on intel GMA950 (945 family). Wow! thats a nice news huh! so hows the graphics?? is it ok?

    thanks!

  80. Gabriel Says:

    @Fen,
    Thanks for giving us that information. I hope Massive can come up with a fix soon.

    @ROELST,
    Thanks for giving us info on your settings. It will serve as a benchmark to others.

    @aj,
    Your issue seems complicated. I suspect that it’s not the DVD-ROM drive that’s the problem. Maybe it’s a software issue as well. It could be a problem with your DirectX 9 installation or video card drivers. Try verify the other areas of concern as well.

    @Rey
    We almost have the same specs… hehe, not really, just the video card. Yeah the game will run fine on your PC. Just don’t expect high graphic details. Nonetheless, the multiplayer game is really addictive.

  81. robert Says:

    yea i think i am going to go with the geforce go 7150m with 559 mb of shared memory.

  82. Gabriel Says:

    @Robert,

    I you have other options, please don’t opt for video cards with shared memory. They cause a lot of strain to your CPU and RAM. If you can, go for the 7300GT or 7300GST instead.

  83. robert Says:

    ok, thanks for the tip

  84. robert Says:

    i dont understrand though. it said that the card was good for more demanding games

  85. robert Says:

    this totally isn’t fair.

  86. Gabriel Says:

    @Robert,

    Hehehe. That’s just how they market their products. Exaggeration is often required in order for a product to sell.

    That’s why when it comes to computer parts and peripherals, we have to do our homework before coming to a purchasing decision. There are a lot of sites dedicated to benchmarking different types of hardware (Tom’s Hardware, for example). Relying on their tried and tested approaches might give you some “best-bang-for-the-buck” deals in the future.

  87. robert Says:

    Thats exactly how i did it. i worked my butt off trying to find a good platform to run this game on. whenever i find something that might work, i always get a message or comment that says it does not support intense games or that something on it doesn’t work. This isnt the first time either. Those guys who play on the consoles have it easy. They just pop in a game and their good to go without having to worry about their processing speed, memory, or graphics. And thats another thing. they just dont offer discounts on gaming computers anymore. They should know that they they would make a good deal out of discounts like that with games like bioshock and halo 3 that are in stores. Who in the world do they expect to pay $2000 for a decent gaming laptop. Especially in todays world where there are more important things to worry about like gas prices.

  88. andrew selman Says:

    I just want to ask one question. When you buy a computer or laptop and it says that the graphics card that it has a compatible with directx 10 or 9, does this mean that the card comes with directx 9 or 10 or does it mean that you have to purchase the directx.

  89. Gabriel Says:

    @Andrew Selman,

    DirectX is a graphics engine built into Microsoft Windows operating systems. When a card is DX9 or DX10 compatible, it means that it works well with computers loaded with Windows.

    You just have to purchase the graphics card.

  90. andrew selman Says:

    ok thanks thats all i needed to know

  91. Varun Says:

    Hi i have the following system can u tell me if i can play this game

    PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!

  92. Varun Says:

    Ph yeah i have both windows XP and Vista home premium on my system which one should i play it on

  93. Gabriel Says:

    Varun,

    You should be able to play the game with the specs you gave. I was able to run it even with older specs. I recommend that you install the game in Windows XP because I can guarantee that Windows Vista won’t give you enough juice with the kinds of specs that you have.

  94. Dave Says:

    do you think I can run this on my laptop?

    Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7250 2.0GHz
    2GB RAM

  96. Nelis Says:

    Same issue with Intel 945 : before patch no problem, now with the patch the game crashes randomly …

  97. Gabriel Says:

    @Dave and Alaa M.,
    Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been busy for a while.

    I have a strong feeling that World in Conflict will run on your laptops. You seem to meet all of the system requirements. Just make sure that you have the latest graphics card drivers installed. But if the game does run, don’t expect high quality graphics.

    @Nelis,
    If you can reinstall the game without installing the latest patch, try doing it. If the problem disappears, then I believe that the case needs to be forwarded to the developer (Massive). It must have something to do with the latest patch.

  98. Dave Says:

    aha I just ordered a new laptop…
    same stuff as my old one except a 256MB NVIDIA 8600M GT
    that should be a good enough GPU…I hope

  99. Dennis Says:

    There is a that test system requirements online based on a game, I am not sure if this is ok. Here is the url….http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

  100. Gabriel Says:

    @Dave,
    Good luck! :)

    @Dennis,
    Thanks for giving us the link!

  101. Bon Says:

    Thanks for the link..

  102. dec Says:

    What do you mean when u say low or medium setting?

  103. Gabriel Says:

    @dec,

    There is a Video Optionsmenu in World in Conflict and you can specify if the quality of the graphic is Low, Medium, or High. Of course, the greater the setting, the more strain it will give to your graphics card. Sometimes, the game is slow as a snail if your system (graphics card, CPU, etc.) can’t handle the strain.

  104. Jas Says:

    How will the game run (singleplayer) at 1024 x 768 if my specs are:

    2.4 ghz single core card
    NVidia GeForce 6200 w/256 mb video ram
    1 gb system ram
    Windows XP sp2
    DirectX 9.0c

  105. Gabriel Says:

    Jas,
    I’m not sure if the game will even run on a GeForce 6200. If it did, you’d be running it at the lowest possible graphic detail settings.

    Try to test your system through the link given by Dennis above.
    http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

  106. Gabriel rocks!!!!!! Says:

    how would world in conflict run on these spes:

    Nvidia geforce 7150m with 559 mb of memory (shared)
    1.9ghz turion 64×2 tl-58 processor
    2 gig ram
    2×512 mb L2 cache
    windows vista home premium
    wireless 802.11a/b/g/n
    directx 9

  107. Gabriel Says:

    Based on the specs you gave. I think World in Conflict would perform much better with details settings set to Low. The bottleneck would be your graphics card.

  108. Gabriel rocks!!!!!! Says:

    thanks gabriel, your a real helper. By the way, the graphics aren’t that important to me. I just want to make sure the game runs.

  109. Gabriel Says:

    You’re welcome. But I’m not sure as well if the game will even run on a GeForce 7150m. Try to visit the link above. That might help.

  110. Gabriel rocks!!!!!! Says:

    well, on the game package, it says that the minimum is geforce 6600, so how will it not be able to run on a 7150m?

  111. Gabriel Says:

    As the adage goes, “you’ll cross the bridge when you get there”. You might want to download a demo version of the game just so that you can really verify if it can run on your computer. Model numbers aren’t entirely the basis for performance or compatibility.

  112. Gabriel rocks!!!!!! Says:

    well, Im not allowed to download any more than the 8 gigabytes of hard drive needed for the game.The point im trying to make is that if it can run on a geforce fx5500, than how could it possible not run with a 7150m.

  113. Gabriel Says:

    Hardware compatibility? Driver compatibility? It all depends on your overall system specifications. Who knows? Maybe a 7150m doesn’t go well with an nForce motherboard or with Windows Vista… Or maybe a video card with shared memory such as the 7150m isn’t entirely supported by the game. Even a 7600 GT was reported to have problems with the game. Just because the game can run on an FX5500 doesn’t necessarily mean that it can run on a 7150m. Unfortunately, the best thing to do is to try it out yourself. Or as a start, you can visit the link above which was provided by Dennis.

  114. Gabriel rocks!!!!!! Says:

    ok I understand. I just assumed it would work on account that i got from the gaming laptops sections of circuit city and that all the costumer reviews said that it was a great gaming laptop, which could run games like call of duty or world of warcraft flawlessly.

  115. anz Says:

    I’m having problems whenever i play World in Conflict single player mode. At the start of the mission the screen freezes. I don’t know wats the problem? Any idea? please help

  116. Gabriel Says:

    Anz,

    What I can do for you is give a few suggestions based on the short information you gave:

    1. Update your video card driver.

    2. Try to lower your graphic detail settings.

    3. Here are a few other suggestions from the World in Conflict forums.

  117. anz Says:

    thanks Gabriel…

  118. anz Says:

    Hi again Gabriel, Is there any website you can recomend where in I can download a Trainer for this game? The last time I downloaded one I got a virus :(… Anything you can recommend is highly appreciatable again thanks

  119. Gabriel Says:

    anz,

    Gameburnworld has a few World in Conflict trainers available for download.

    To check for the integrity of the file, try to scan it using any of the free single file online virus scan services on the Web.

  120. robert Says:

    Hi, remember me. I am not going to ask about any information on this graphics card, but if it can run half life 2 at the highest possible settings, would it be able to run world in conflict at a decent setting.

  121. Gabriel Says:

    Robert,

    Yeah, I believe so. Half Life, being a first person shooter game demands higher GPU and CPU requirements than RTS games like World in Conflict. I assume that by decent setting you meant medium settings (?).

  122. robert Says:

    so, i can would only be able to run it at medium?

  123. robert Says:

    sorry for that i meant, so i would only be able to play world in conflict on medium?

  124. Gabriel Says:

    Oh, I’m sorry. I haven’t read that you mentioned, at the highest possible settings. Well, I will have to say that there’s a very good chance that you can play the single and multiplayer games at high settings.

  125. robert Says:

    oh thanks i was getting worried there.

  126. robert Says:

    ok this is the best i can get.

    1.4 ghz core duo with 2mb cache
    windows vista home basic
    2GB shared dual channel SDRAM
    120 GB hard drive
    8x cd/dvd burner with double layer dvd+r write capability
    nvidia geforce 8600GT with 256 mb

    Please tell me if world in conflict will run on this system

  127. robert Says:

    sorry the video card was an 8600m GT

  128. Gabriel Says:

    Yup. But I guess the game will stress your system in multiplayer mode. I can guess that there’s a good chance that you can run the game decently at high settings in the single player campaign.

    I’m not familiar with the 2 GB shared SDRAM that you mentioned. I know that memory modules are independent and that dual channel, in your case means 2 modules of the same type, 1 GB each. Furthermore, is your CPU a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo? I’m also assuming that the 120 GB hard drive is a SATA or SATAII drive.

    And about your operating system, Windows Vista, check if you have DirectX 9 installed. DirectX 10 demands more CPU and GPU power and game performance will vary depending on the rendering engine installed.

  129. robert Says:

    nevermind, im not getting it

  130. eric Says:

    Can someone tell me if these specs can handle the game…

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 DualCore Processor 4200+
    NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE 2.20 GHz
    1.93 GB RAM
    300 GB
    Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (sp2)

  131. Gabriel Says:

    Eric,

    Yeah, I guess so. Your GeForce 6150 is a bottleneck but I have a strong feeling that you can run the game. Now the problem is how fast the game can run on a 6150 LE. My guess is that you can run World in Conflict but at the lowest detail settings possible (at 1024 x 768 screen resolution). I hope this gives you an idea.

  132. Ben Says:

    Hey umm i jus t want to know how this PC will handle with WiC…

    AMD AM2 DUALCORE 6000 PROCESSOR (3GB)
    Gigabyte M56S-S3 MOTHERBOARD
    NVIDIA 8600GT GRAPHICS CARD 512MB MEMORY
    4gb of team elite ddr2 ram

    cheers

  133. Gabriel Says:

    Ben,

    I’m guessing a 1024×768 resolution at the highest detail settings won’t give you so much lag based on the specs you gave.

  134. Ben Says:

    Alright thanks mate thats all i needed to know.

  135. Andy Says:

    Nvidia GeForce FX Go 5700 video/graphics card 1.8 centrino M and 1 gig of ram. toshiba qosimio. Can i play this game on my computer?

  136. Gabriel Says:

    Andy,

    Yeah, I think so. You have better specs than me. I was able to run the game with a GeForce FX5500.

  137. Nick Says:

    Hi will my system run this game
    Intel q6660 quad core 2.4 ghz
    4 gb patriot ddr2 ram
    500gb sata hard drive

    but i only have the ati 2400 hd pro graphics card

  138. Gabriel Says:

    Nick,

    I just checked the specs of the ATI Radeon 2400 HD Series and it seems to be more than capable of running World in Conflict. It’s DX10 compatible as well. Your other specs are superb.

    Just in case the game won’t run, make sure that you’ve installed the latest patch for the game. It may not know how to handle that much RAM. The game has issues with nForce chipsets as well.

  139. Smokey Says:

    All - I’m having a problem with WIC. I have a new Gaming Laptop, but when I loaded up the game last night I couldn’t see the smoke effects. This pretty much makes the game unplayable.

    The specs of my machine are:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHz,3MB Cache,800MHz
    NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT 512MB (DX10)
    WSXGA+ X-Glass rock logo Orange
    2GB DDR2 667MHz
    120GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
    Windows Vista Home Premium

    Would love any suggestions. It’s driving me spare.

    Smokey

  140. Gabriel Says:

    Smokey,

    It’s a good thing that you were able to run the game. Now your only problem would be somewhere between the DirectX installed on your system and the video card driver. I have a strong feeling it’s the latter. Have you updated to the latest Forceware driver version? The driver should be available from nVidia’s Web site.

    Here are my other suggies:

    1. Update to the latest World in Conflict patch. Patch is available at World in Conflict’s official Web site.

    2. If the latest Forceware driver for Windows Vista isn’t working well on your system, try to use an alternate driver. I personally recommend one from OmegaDrivers.

  141. Smokey Says:

    Thanks Gabriel - you’re a star. I’ll give it a go.

    Smokey

  142. kevin Says:

    i have a nvidia ge force fx 5700 series will the game run with good graphics

  143. Gabriel Says:

    Kevin,

    Maybe not so good graphics. I have an FX5500 and the graphic detail is what I’d consider, “playable”. See the screen shots above for reference.

    As for the performance, it will all depend on your other system specs, i.e., CPU, memory, hard drive RPM, etc.

  148. Gabriel Says:

    Larry,
    I’m sorry but GeForce 4 series cards are not supported, as stated above.

    x_shane_28 and Dan,
    I’m sorry for not responding so soon. I have a strong feeling that you can run the game at the lowest settings with those specs.

    Please take note that my graphics card is a dedicated AGP card (not built into the motherboard). But don’t take my word for it. I suggest you grab a demo copy before actually buying it.

    I have tried to play the game, but it acts as if it is loading, the screen flips to black, and then right back to the desktop…..?

    I have read each and every post to find out if there was anything i was missing. SO far i have noticed that everyone who posted has at least 128 MB graphics card. Mine on the other hand comes to a amazing 32 MB. Odd thing is, i can play every other game that has a min requirement of 128….very odd.

    I have the following specs:

    IBM Thinkpad T40 2373-8CU

    * CPU: Intel Pentium M (Banthis) 1.5GHz, 598MHz FSB
    * RAM: 2 x 1 GB SoDIMM, 333MHz
    * GRAPHICS CARD: ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 AGP, 32 MB memory, 32bit
    * MONITOR: 14.1? @ 1024 x 768, 32-bit
    * Operating System: Windows XP SP3
    * DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

    I believe my options are very limited, as i don’t think i can upgrade my GPU for a better one (for what i’ve read, its welded in there). I have PCI card slots, but i dont think i can get a graphics card that will give me the the needed push.

    If there are any solutions, something i haven’t tried, I’m game for it. I have all the current drivers installed. Im afraid that my 4yr old laptop is just not enough anymore. Any suggestions will be helpful (even if its a “your screwed, man.”)

    Thanks

    i have a quick question…. I moved into a new place and didn’t have internet when i installed WiC. It looked like hell and lagged terribly but it ran. I get connected to the net a few days later and when i try to start the game it says i don’t have a good enough graphics card!!! what gives? i even uninstalled and reinstalled to see if it worked but it says the same thing. Heck, i even tried playing with the net disconnected and it still said i didn’t have a good enough graphics card. I’m lost… any help?

  153. JeremyShaw Says:

    Clear the registry of all WiC references.

    Dunno if this helps, but WiC (vanilla, not patches) runs decently enough, with pixel shaders set to high and everything else set to low (allright, benchmark 8fps min, 56 max, 24 avg). Playable. (The rest the comp is a Centrino Duo at 1.66ghz each, 2gb ram (224 for video), 945gm chipset)

    I can use a trainer and carpet bomb and drop 10+ nukes and sure it slows down but it doesnt crash and is more than 100% playable.
