WordPress 2.3 Out Now, Upgrading Woes In

On Monday, September 24, 2007, WordPress version 2.3 was released to the public. For information on the changes and improvements in this new version, see Changelog for 2.3.
With a lot of significant changes to the latest release, upgrading has to be done with utmost care. Please make a back-up of your databases, posts, themes, and plugins. There are plenty of plugins affected in this release, so make sure that your plugins are included in the Plugin Compatibility List for version 2.3. In the case of this blog, one plugin had to be disabled until a working version comes out.
You may download a stable version of WordPress 2.3 at the official site.

I plan on upgrading this weekend, when I have enough time to spare if anything goes wrong
Looks like a great upgrade though!

Hey Steve,
The Update Notification and Tagging features are great additions indeed. Unfortunately, I’m using a 3rd-party tagging plugin similar to Ultimate Tag Warrior and it’s currently broken because of the change in the core WordPress code.
Other than these, I’m very satisfied with the latest version.

Wow….this is such a great news. I’m going to update my wordpress too.
It’s the time now for me to make some changes on my blog too.

Actually, now it’s time for Wordpress 2.5.1. If you ask me, I like 2.3 a lot better and haven’t upgraded many of my blogs because of it. 2.5 will take a little bit of getting used to and there are a few bugs that are just frustrating such as the new password issues.

Yeah, I much prefer Wordpress 2.3. If they work out the bugs in 2.5 perhaps I will like it better. I must say that the 2.5 function for autoupgrading plugins are a great feature.

Well, I have gotten used to to 2.5 now so it’s all good now.

A feature that will only make hardcore developers giddy, there is a not-yet-used-yet-still-functionally-solid method added to the database class. the prepare() method is a handy little method that can be used to nuke SQL injection hacks before they become an issue by creating safe SQL code. Like I said, it’s not in use yet in WordPress because the devs ran out of time prior to release of WordPress 2.3. The feature is officially slated for WordPress 2.4 but I thought I’d point it out as the code is in place (and subject to possible modification in advance of its official support in WordPres 2.4.
