Visiting the Silverlight Gallery in a Flash

Having heard of Adobe Flash’s would-be competitor earlier this month, I finally went over to the Silverlight Gallery to see how it significantly differs with Flash. A plug-in is needed to view Silverlight movies so I first downloaded the Microsoft Silverlight 1.0 beta plug-in and installed it. It’s a good thing that the developers included support for Firefox and Safari browsers in their beta release, though support for Opera would be much more appreciated.

A First Glimpse at WarRock PH: Training

May 27th, 2007 by Gabriel

WarRock PH

I spent a few hours a while ago testing out WarRock Philippines. I’m not really into FPS games but I enjoyed this one. First, I explored a couple of maps to see what’s in store for me, so I went into training. Some maps were impressive and large enough for 2 teams of 10. There were also lots of things to do in the game. You can ride a bike, a humvee, a half-track, or a heavy tank. You can choose from 5 character classes as well- engineer, medic, sniper, assault, or heavy weapons. Second, I joined a few games. As one would expect from a closed-beta release, there were only a few players in-game. However, I expect a lot of FPS gamers to swarm the servers when WarRock PH reaches open beta. There is currently one server, but there’s plenty of room for closed-beta players. Anyway, I joined a deathmatch game and a capture-the-flag team type game. The team game was a lot of fun because I was able to use different vehicles as well as character classes. Although communication among the team members wasn’t in sync, it wasn’t a hindrance to really have a feel of the game. Meanwhile, check out my training screenies. I hope you’d be able to join WarRock PH during its final release.

If you’ve been using Gmail recently, you might have noticed that the attachment limit is now 20 MB. Yup, it has doubled. However, a recent project of mine called for a larger attachment. A simple Google search for the term free file hosting gave me an idea of what would initially make up my top 5 file hosing services.

A Few Technical Difficulties

May 26th, 2007 by Gabriel

A few hours ago, Project Afterlight was inaccessible in some parts of the world. This was due to a hardware problem on the Web host’s data centers. Another minor error recently appeared as well. If you’re seeing a cryptic code on the sidebar of this Web site, please ignore it. Rest assured that all of these problems are being sorted out by our ever supportive Web host.

Bloggers Fail to Upgrade, Risk Attacks

May 25th, 2007 by Gabriel

WordPressA SecurityFocus report tells of bloggers using the popular WordPress blogging software being vulnerable to attacks and infections because they fail to upgrade their WordPress installations. • A lot of bloggers are not technical, and therefore, do not fully understand the reasons behind upgrading their software.
  • A lot of users do not want to upgrade because their favorite plugins would fail.

How to Access Blocked Websites the SSL Way

May 24th, 2007 by Gabriel

How To Access Blocked Websites the SSL WayI recently read an article from the spring issue of 2600 about avoiding Internet filtering. This method by Major Lump was one I haven’t tried before. I’ve gone through anonymous Web surfing sites such as PageWash or those which give you a list of anonymous proxies or even retrieving sites through e-mail but I haven’t tried the SSL way of accessing blocked Websites.

So how exactly do you access blocked Websites the SSL way? Read on.
